In an interview featured in the just released Paramount+ docuseries, Nöthin’ But a Good Time: The Uncensored Story of ’80s Hair Metal, Warrant drummer Steven Sweet looked back at the highly sexualized music videos of that era, especially the provactive one for Warrant’s provocative “Cherry Pie.” “Warrant was all about having fun without hurting anybody,” says the 58-year-old Sweet. “I know we didn’t think of it as a misogynistic video, although it was in hindsight.” Bobbie Brown, the then-girlfriend of Warrant’s singer Jani Lane‘s, starred in the video, which featured her dressed in next to nothing while dancing around as she’s being hosed down throughout the clip. “I don’t even know if that got flagged at the time,” said MTV executive Rick Krim in the documentary. “Objectifying women kind of became the rule. You look back at it now and you’re like, ‘How did we let them get away with that?’” (People)
